UFC 126 - Preview and Prediction

Anderson Silva on happier times.

Tomorrow is UFC 126 and usually there will spawn a bunch of sites that would try to predict the outcome of the PPV.

I am like those other guys.

I am not really keen with the rest of the card. It’s not that it’s bad... I just don’t know the other guys involved. Maybe I’ll talk about the other guys once I saw their matches.

Anyway...

Game starts now!

JON JONES VERSUS RYAN BADER
These guys have been in the light heavyweight “midcard” scene for some time now and one of them is poised to break the main event scene sooner than expected. Jon “Bones” Jones lost once against Matt Hamill because of illegal elbows. Except for that unfortunate encounter, his MMA career is almost flawless. And speaking of his elbows, those same elbows are bound to menace an unfortunate foe especially when they are prone in the mat. He stunned Brandon Vera in a match that sidelined The Truth for almost a year, and he took aged vet Vladimir Matyushenko. Ryan Bader meanwhile is on a 12-0 roll. He is a Grade-A wrestler and he is an extremely powerful puncher. His last two opponents are not pushovers. He mauled Keith Jardine in UFC 110 and he won unanimously against Antonio “Lil’ Nog” Nogueira in UFC 119. Both guys are exciting new prospects to beef up the light heavyweight division. Despite I know Jones will have an ace on his sleeve I’m sticking with Darth in a thrilling match that would go to distance. It would be Bader’s cyborg-like awesomeness against Jones’ flashy but effective skills set.
PREDICTION: RYAN BADER

FORREST GRIFFIN VERSUS RICH FRANKLIN
Here’s another rump and tumble matchup in the light heavyweight division. I’m actually anticipating for this match for months now. It’s no secret that I am a huge Forrest Griffin mark. Actually, I’m also a Rich “Ace” Franklin mark but I’m leaning towards Griffin. Griffin has faced MMA’s best and while he has lost to guys like Tito Ortiz, Jardine, Rashad Evans, and Anderson Silva... he was able defeat guys like Shogun Rua, Rampage Jackson, and Ortiz. Griffin is one of the toughest guys to step in the Octagon in terms of durability and while that doesn’t really result to wins, it surely makes their bout against Franklin exciting. Franklin on the other hand has been able to challenge adversity with wins against the likes of Ken Shamrock, Evan Tanner, Hamill, Wanderlei Silva, and Chuck Liddell and losses from Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva (twice), Dan Henderson, and Vitor Belfort. I saw his last match against Liddell where he broke his arm in the first round and just when the Iceman thought he was down and out, he suddenly unleashes a wicked fist to knock out Liddell. Forrest will use his size and striking to mow down Ace’s defenses. Ace will try to find Forrest’s Achilles heel and work on it to his advantage. Both guys play the same style and I’m sure that this will be an exciting match!
PREDICTION: FORREST GRIFFIN

ANDERSON SILVA VERSUS VITOR BELFORT
For the UFC Middleweight Title
It would be stupid to bet against The Spider. Before the Belfort bout, he has successfully defended his UFC Middleweight plum ten times. He has defeated Franklin, Chris Leben, Nate Marquardt, Henderson, Griffin, Patrick Cote, and Demian Maia. While it seems as if the streak will be halted as Chael Sonnen went berserk and went all out against Silva in their last match, Silva regrouped and mere ten seconds left in the last round, Silva unlocked a triangle/armbar choke for the submission victory. He is so unpredictable because he can attack you from all stances. His ground game is phenomenal but his bread and butter are his vicious kicks and pinpoint counter shots. Meanwhile, Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort seems to be the perfect person to snatch Silva’s belt. Since returning to UFC, he has created a lot of buzz. Why else would a man who just returned to the UFC be sent to the title picture rather quickly if Dana White didn’t trust his drawing power? Vitor boast busy fists which was the reason why Franklin lost to Belfort in UFC 103. In the course of his career, he has faced the likes of Henderson, Franklin, Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva, Liddell, and Randy Couture, who incidentally is the man that is training him right now. His ring experience should also be considered since he has been in the UFC ever since the old days and has faced old school guys like Tank Abbott, Tra Telligman, and Scott Ferrozzo. This is scary considering he is only 33.

This match could either end quickly or go to distance. Silva wants to continue his awesome winning streak. However, Belfort has been yearning for recognition. It must be hard beating a fellow Brazilian for the title but at least it will still be in the hands of a Brazilian so... why can’t it be him?

Anyway hopefully the other midcard matches will be a treat and I hope this will be an awesome slobber knocker!

By the way...
