Statmonkey of the Season

I finally won a Fantasy League!

WOOHOO!

Years after being a bridesmaid, I finally won a fantasy league! Shit, am I rambling? Fact is... yeah... I am! In a 6-team pack, my team, the Wazakramento Kings, finished first. Sure, it’s not a big thing but with the way my fantasy campaign is going, I’m going to savor this moment!

My fantasy campaigns haven’t been fruitful. My PBFantasy campaigns haven’t been fruitful. While my Yahoo team, Wazakramento Kings team won, La Mesa Damn, my ESPN team, was struck to sixth.

I learned the hard truth that real-life winners and rookies suck in Fantasyland.

I also learned a couple of great things during my first NBA season with fantasy players involved.

STATMONKEY OF THE SEASON

Dwight Howard is the Statmonkey of the Season!

The Orlando Magic star behemoth didn’t have a triple-double but he posted 66 double-doubles and was insanely efficient in all parts of the court. Howard finished first in the double-double department with Kevin Love finishing second (64), Blake Griffin claiming third (63), Zach Randolph number four (53), and Pau Gasol finishing fifth (43). Completing the Top Ten are Steve Nash (41), Al Jefferson (37), David Lee (37), LaMarcus Aldridge (36), and Al Horford (36).

Lebron James who finished with runner-up honors, was the triple-double leader of the season with four. Andre Igoudala finished with three (he had two straight triple-double games) alongside Russell Westbrook and Rajon Rondo. Jason Kidd and Griffin nailed the feat twice.

Howard finished the regular season with 22.9 points, 14.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.4 blocks in 78 games. James at number two was good for 26.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks. Love, a surprise package this season who erased Moses Malone’s consecutive double-double games record, had 20.2 points, 15.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks.

Kevin Durant was the season’s leading scorer.

TOP 10 POINTS: Kevin Durant (27.7), Lebron James (26.7), Carmelo Anthony (25.6), Dwyane Wade (25.5), Kobe Bryant (25.3), Amar’e Stoudemire (25.3), Derrick Rose (25.0), Monta Ellis (24.1), Kevin Martin (23.5), Dirk Nowitzki (23.0).

TOP 10 REBOUNDS: Kevin Love (15.2), Dwight Howard (14.1), Zach Randolph (12.2), Blake Griffin (12.1), Reggie Evans (11.5), Andrew Bogut (11.1), Kris Humphries (10.4), Joakim Noah (10.4), Marcus Camby (10.3), Pau Gasol (10.2).

TOP 10 ASSISTS: Steve Nash (11.4), Rajon Rondo (11.2), Deron Williams (10.3), Chris Paul (9.8), Jose Calderon (8.9), Raymond Felton (8.3), John Wall (8.3), Jason Kidd (8.2), Russell Westbrook (8.2), Derrick Rose (7.7).

TOP 10 STEALS: Chris Paul (2.4), Rajon Rondo (2.3), Monta Ellis (2.1), Russell Westbrook (1.9), Tony Allen (1.8), Mike Conley (1.8), John Wall (1.8), Rudy Gay (1.7), Jason Kidd (1.7), Raymond Felton (1.7).

TOP 10 BLOCKS: Andrew Bogut (2.6), Javale McGee (2.4), Serge Ibaka (2.4), Dwight Howard (2.4), Darko Milicic (2.0), Andrew Bynum (2.0), Amar’e Stoudemire (1.9), Tim Duncan (1.9), Al Jefferson (1.9), DeAndre Jordan (1.8), Emeka Okafor (1.8), Roy Hibbert (1.8).

******************************

My Yahoo Fantasy League was a rotisserie league. I must admit that this is a more exciting league than the PBFantasy-inspired ESPN Fantasy League I played in especially in crunch time because the last-placed team can still kill you. I almost lost the tourney because I was so complacent with my stats that I forgot that my “blocks” advantage was slowly dying. I ended up winning by only a point.

WOOHOO!

We also used the 82-game system that’s why it was great that I benched my players from time to time if I know their performances will suck. I had it good when I opted to check out the players with scoring, rebounding, and assisting values than those with high field goal and 3-point percentage. Next season, I expect free throw percentage, free throws made, assist/turnover ratio, and field goals made to be included.

ESPN FANTASY LEAGUE: TOP PLAYERS

Meanwhile, here are the Top 150 players of my ESPN Fantasy League. Points are multiplied by 1, offensive rebounds are multiplied by 2, defensive rebounds = 1.5, assists = 2, blocks and steals = 2.5, turnovers = 1, and fouls = 0.5. Double doubles will have an additional 5 points, triple doubles will have an additional 20 points, and quadruple doubles will claim 100 points. At the middle part of our Fantasy League, it felt like the point multiplier is imbalanced.

If we’re going to have another season, I’m going to push to make our league either a rotisserie, or give points a 1.25 multiplier and a x10 multiplier for field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three point percentage. Quadruple doubles? I’M GOING TO PUSH THIS TO 1000 POINTS!

Anyway, you’ll find the rankings here a bit different from the Yahoo rankings.

This will be based on their fantasy points per game.

The names in italics were players I used at some point in the tourneys.

What sucks? The payment I will receive in the Yahoo League will be used to play my ESPN League.

Hopefully I can do better next season.

Again, I’m going to zero in on my chances to win next season.

Game over!
