2011 NBA Finals Game 1 - Miami draws first blood

Don’t you just hate it when your friends diss you?

Damn right Dallas! I saw a couple of Facebook messages, blog comments, Twitter logs, and real-life musings about how Miami bitched around the Dallas Mavs.

Dallas deserves to win this series but they need to sort out the internal kinks they have right now in order to at least win Game 2 of this best-of-7 series at South Beach! Miami will never give the series to Dallas unless the Mavs earned it. Hell, Miami will never hand it to Dallas period and the Mavs need to grab that chance pronto before it gets too sticky! Yes, it is such a hard and daunting task but if they are that needy for a championship, they have to make an effort to seal out their miscues.

And here are the reasons why they lost Game 1... using a slew of pictures I scoured from Yahoo Sports.

NUMBER 10 / BOSH HAD HIS KOBE FACE ON

Say hello to the Kobe face.

Putting on the Kobe face makes a person awesome. Or look constipated. Whatever. In Game 1, Bosh had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and a shot block. Which leads us to this...

NUMBER 9 / THE BIG THREE WAS ON TONIGHT

It's okay if its a three-way
It's not gay if its a three-way

Lebron James came in with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block and for once in the playoffs, Dwyane Wade didn’t look like a sidekick by spraying in 22 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks. I said on my series preview that 60 points from the WBJ (Wade-Bosh-James) will matter if they want to win games but then they got a bonus.

NUMBER 8 / MARIO F’N CHALMERS

Both guys are trying to grab balls.

The guy who had to switch his jersey to 15 because Lebron wanted his number was a big help off the bench. All three of his made triples came from abroad and he finished with 12 points – all in the second quarter. His score was enough to cancel out Jason Terry’s output.

NUMBER 7 / THE HOMECROWD

Welcome to the jungle

Miami had to win in their home court. That’s a given. The crowd needs to feed to their team fire and they did just that. That sea of white was partly responsible for their Game 1 success. Dallas needs to silence this crowd and the only way they can do this is by making them support incompetence.

NUMBER 6 / DIRK’S TONGUE DIDN’T WORK

The tongue failed... for now.

Dirk Nowitzki led all scorers with 27 points but he was only good for 7-of-18 shooting. Channelling Michael Jordan is good and all and hopefully that will work for him on Game 2 but until then, he needs to solve one kind of major problem...

NUMBER 5 / SUPPORT

Where was the firepower?

Miami has a guaranteed 60 points regardless of how off the one of the WBJ become. Dallas doesn’t have that luxury. Sure, Shawn Marion came to play by drilling in 16 points and 10 rebounds but the rest of the squad failed to properly support Dirk. Terry scored 12 points in the first half but got blanked afterwards. Jason Kidd and Tyson Chandler had nine points each but while they aren’t scoring threats, Kidd’s assist numbers were off and Chandler only managed to claim four boards in 34 minutes. JJ Barea was only good for two points while Peja Stojakovic was held down to zero.

NUMBER 4 / UDONIS HASLEM TOUCHING DIRK IN THE WRONG PLACES

Udonis Haslem is the only other Miami player that won a championship with the Heat and he showed it here. His sticky defense against Dirk further solidified the shitty showing of Dirk’s support. I don’t expect Haslem to do well against Dirk but I seriously hope the support would get their acts going.

NUMBER 3 / LEBRON JAMES

I have to return to Lebron here. And while I diss him over and over again, I am bent on the fact that he is the yardstick of Miami Heat’s success. The Mavs had every intention of shutting him up early by calling his arch-nemesis, DeShawn Stevenson to torment him. Just like in the old Cleveland versus Washington series’, Stevenson was eaten alive by Lebron. With this, I prompt Rick Carlisle to call on Corey Brewer to play LBJ. Brewer is a decent defender and a known steal specialist that could temporarily stun LBJ. There is talk that Caron Butler could be healthy enough to play but that fact is questionable. At this stage, let Wade and Bosh do their thing but whenever Lebron penetrates, they have to collapse on Lebron.

Respecting three superstars must not be the case. They have to treat two of them as more than efficient sidekicks and they need to destroy the leader.

Take... out... Lebron.

NUMBER 2 / THIS GUY

Oh no you didn't!

Just because David Hasselhoff is a singing god in Germany and because Dirk is a German, doesn’t make it right to compare Dirk to the Baywatch Guy!

HOFF-WITZKI???

YOU ARE NOT COOL!!!

NUMBER 1 / MAKING IT

Chris Bosh "knees" Tyson Chandler before Tyson's hand could go lower.

Game 1 was for the Heat to win and for the Mavericks to lose. The Heat did win and it may have given the squad the advantage. What Dallas needs to do is to adjust and note everything they encountered. I still believe that offensive support will lead both teams to victory. As for confidence, let us remember that Dallas did the same thing with Miami back in 2006 when they let 2-0 only to squander it in the end.

BOX SCORES:

MIAMI 92 – James 24, Wade 22, Bosh 19, Chalmers 12, Haslem 7, Miller 6, Howard 2, Anthony 0, Bibby 0.

DALLAS 84 – Nowitzki 27, Marion 16, Terry 12, Kidd 9, Chandler 9, Stevenson 6, Haywood 3, Barea 2, Stojakovic 0.

Game over!
